One evening, as I was working on Tarot Read AI, I realized we had a problem. The costs of running the AI were getting higher and higher. OpenAI's fees were more than the price of my daily boba tea, and our Vercel usage was almost at the limit of the free plan. I needed to find a solution.

Finding a Solution

I thought about different ways to handle the costs without stopping the free tarot readings. Then it hit me—what if we used a virtual token system? This way, I could manage the costs and also make the experience more fun for users. That's how the idea of "Runes" was born.

Building Runes

For the next six days, I worked hard to create the Runes system. I wanted it to be easy to use and enjoyable. Finally, Runes were ready. With Runes, users can get one free tarot reading every day. If they want more readings, they can buy extra Runes at a low cost. While other AI tarot sites charge around $1 per read, I decided to charge only 8 Runes, which is about $0.04 if you buy in bulk.
